Lonely

Our creative writing brief for last term was “Re-write a scene or story from the point of view of someone or something that none of the characters knew was watching.” Here is one of our entries.

Do you ever feel like you’re just here, just here to be a background character? Like you’re invisible to the rest of your school, to the rest of the world. Well, that’s how I feel 24/7. I’m the friend who walks behind everybody else on the sidewalk, I’m the person who is never the first choice.

We were out on the playground in our trio, I hate trios, let me tell you why. Because there’s always the best friends and one person is always left out. So, when we were under the shade as it was a hot summer day, they were chatting about the sleepover they were going to have, and I wasn’t invited, of course. But that’s when I felt something shudder through me and I didn’t know what it was. I called out to my ‘friends’: “Hey guys, umm I feel a little ill. Can we go to the library out of the noise?” They completely ignored me. What was going on? I don’t think they even noticed me; I mean I know they usually answer my questions like they wanted me to disappear, but they’ve never fully ignored me before.

Do you ever feel like you’re just here, just here to be a background character? Like you’re invisible to the rest of your school, to the rest of the world.

In spite of this, I walked over to one of the teachers who was on duty: “Miss I really feel weird can you please call my mother?”

She completely ignored me. Surely the teachers wouldn’t be allowed to ignore me too? What was going on?

I went to the bathroom and when I looked in the mirror I wasn’t there.
