I’ve decided to write about William Shakespeare because I find him to be a big inspiration, and I’ve always loved reading his plays. One of my favourite plays by Shakespeare is The Taming of the Shrew. I find it to be a really interesting and entertaining story.
Shakespeare is one of the most impactful writers of all time. He started writing when he was about 25 years old, and throughout his life he ended up writing around 38 plays and 154 sonnets, along with other poems. I believe Shakespeare is a very important figure in history; he created many great stories which range from comedies to tragedies and even historical literary pieces. He is a very inspirational person to young people, especially those who aspire to be writers one day. He had a huge impact on the English language, and some sources say he invented over 1,700 words! These include words such as “majestic,” “downstairs”, and “eyeball”.
Shakespeare was supposedly born on the 23rd of April 1564 and died in 1616, also on the 23rd of April. On his tombstone Shakespeare even included a curse to prevent grave robbers: “And cursed be he that moves my bones.” During the 16th and 17th centuries there was a famine, and some modern reports (sources such as the BBC and The Times) suggest that Shakespeare may have been involved in financial disputes related to grain trading and taxation. However, there is limited surviving evidence about this period of his life.
Shakespeare was a peculiar man who clearly had more secrets to him than most people would know including possible tax evasion, curses and inventing words. However, despite everything he is still the famous playwright we all know today, and even hundreds of years after his death Shakespeare’s work is still read, studied, and performed, showing how powerful and timeless his writing truly is.
