Our planet needs a win

For this edition, yet again, our creative writing entries were amazing! We asked our fellow young writers to let their imagination run wild and take part in our “Unexpected beginnings” writing competition. The brief was to craft a captivating story, poem, or piece of creative writing but with a twist: The first sentence had to begin with “I didn’t mean to…

I didn’t mean to contribute

to our planet’s bleeding pain,

I didn’t mean to contribute

to greedy plastic gain.

I didn’t mean to hurt the planet

meant to keep us safe,

I know now to be safe we must sustain,

to combat the oils poured into the suffering seas.

To reverse the mighty damage,

to fix is to redeem,

to reduce the wasteful spending,

that’s ruining our trees,

to save future generations,

from issues worse than these.

Do you want to be the one,

who litters daggers on the ground,

who lets the earth get punched and kicked,

without a fixing bound?

No! Be the one who picks it up

and puts it in the bin.

We all have to contribute,

Our planet needs a win!

Please note: All articles written by young people are fictional in nature and nothing is to be taken as fact.
