Five unusual Easter facts

Some Easter facts and a puzzle to get you into the Easter spirit…

  • Easter Island isn’t related to the holiday! It’s a remote island in the Pacific Ocean, known for its giant stone statues, and shares a name with the holiday.

  • Easter eggs were once real eggs that were dyed or painted, with the tradition dating back to the Middle Ages.

  • In some countries, Easter eggs are thrown rather than hidden!

  • The Easter Bunny’s origins come from Pagan traditions, where a rabbit was a symbol of fertility and spring.

  • Australia has a “Bunny-less” Easter – the Easter Bunny is replaced by the Easter Bilby, a native marsupial**, to raise awareness for endangered species.

**A marsupial is a mammal that belongs to the infraclass Metatheria, which is sometimes called Marsupialia
